An update from Poland & Ukraine…

I am excited to provide a quick note as I wrap up our first trip to Poland & Ukraine of 2023.

While this was a shorter trip (1 week in Lublin, Poland and 1 week in Lutsk, Ukraine), it was packed with purpose and, as always, was a tremendous learning experience.

Over the course of the last 2 weeks the Team and I observed a subtle, yet profound, shift in view of this heinous war when compared to our previous trips.

What millions had hoped would be resolved through a Ukrainian victory are now grappling with the reality that this war is fast approaching its one year mark on February 24, which means a forced shift from short-term to long-term plans.

For example, many of the refugee women in Lublin, Poland are learning the Polish language, exploring options for employment, and considering schools for their children. Our partners here are also adjusting the type of aid and support provided to refugees, by incorporating more services to assimilate into Polish society: offering language courses to refugees, providing psychological support groups and individual therapy sessions with licensed psychologists (as pictured here), encouraging financial independence through employment, etc.

The shift to long-term planning and assistance is only possible because basic needs are being met, and that is largely because of sustained financial support from folks in the West, like us.

So, for those of you who contributed to our Winter Giving Campaign and who have given generously through contributions, Thank You!! Your support matters and continues to make a direct impact into the lives of those affected by this war. More details about this trip to come soon! Until then, I send happy wishes from Poland!
